Expert: TikTok may raise presence in Russia amid US bans

MOSCOW, Aug 7 (PRIME) -- China’s ByteDance, the developer of application TikTok, may expand its presence in Russia because of the U.S.’ ban on transactions with the company, Cybersecurity Agency head Yevgeny Lifshits told PRIME on Friday.

“In theory, we can assume that the company will now turn its look to Russia, where an audience rises hugely within a year, from 8 to 20 million,” Lifshits said.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier issued executive orders banning any U.S. deals with the Chinese companies that own TikTok and WeChat.
